I live north of Prospect, in Fort Collins, CO. And up until a week or so ago, I thought I spent most of my time in Fort Collins, except when I'd take a jaunt down to Denver now and again. But I recently learned that just because it's close to home, doesn't mean it's within the city limits. I was surprised at how close I am to the borders of town (or what's officially part of Fort Collins, at least).
I dug up this map through the city website. Not only are the edges much closer in than I realized (north of Prospect, at least) but they're also far bumpier than I would have imagined either.
I used this map to come up with the little drawing to the upper right of the page, where I highlight the area that is north of Prospect. Don't compare my image and this map too closely, though. *gulp* In comparing the two I see that I missed several bits of jutting city. I did fudge a few areas on purpose just because the drawing was getting a bit too complicated. But there's that lower left peninsula of city I appear to have missed entirely. Oops!
In looking at the map, I find that I do still spend most of my time within the city limits. But on walks and when visiting my kids' school, I've traveling in and out of city boundaries. No wonder there are llamas sometimes when I least expect them!
